Cyberkinetics
This company was founded byJoh Donoghue, Mijail Serruya, and Gerhard Friehs from Brown University and Nicho Hatsopoulos of the University of Chicago. They have developed early-stage bionics in the form of an implantable device. They have also developed Brain Gate technology that has been implanted into five seperate severly disabled patients to determine if they can send simple computer commands.
U.S. Army (DARPA)
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) has been given $4 million by the U.S. Army to develop a BCI system that allows person to person communication without speech. This program has been dubbed Silent Talk. This is part of a $70 million project that began in 2000 to develop hardware that adapts to its user's behavior.
Interactive Product Line
This company develops a game called "Mindball" that allows the user to move a ball using just their brain (and an EEG) to relax the subject. They do not sell this product to the public, but instead market it as a Software Development Kit to independent developers (such as Emotiv). Mindball currently sells for ~USD$23,000. |
